Re-Score of “Monsieur Noir – and the Monsters from the Basement”
“Monsieur Noir” is a German short animated film (2009, approx. 9 min), written and directed by Jan-Peter Meier and produced by DenverMP in co-production with NFP Animation.
The story follows Jacques, a young boy terrified of the dark basement, where he believes monsters are hiding — led by the mysterious Monsieur Noir, a symbol of fear and darkness itself. As the story unfolds, Jacques learns that courage and self-belief can turn even the darkest fears into light.
For this project, I created a re-score of the film — a new musical interpretation that accompanies Jacques’s emotional journey from fear to courage. The music aims to deepen the atmosphere, enhance the tension, and ultimately amplify the sense of release and inner strength at the story’s end.

Der Film erzählt von Jacques, einem kleinen Jungen, der große Angst vor dem dunklen Keller hat. Dort glaubt er, dass finstere Monster lauern – allen voran Monsieur Noir, der die Dunkelheit und die Angst symbolisiert. Doch im Verlauf der Geschichte wird deutlich: mit Mut und innerer Stärke lassen sich auch die größten Ängste überwinden. NFP Animation Film GmbH
Meine Aufgabe bestand darin, einen Re-Score des Films zu gestalten – eine Neuvertonung, die diese emotionale Reise von Furcht zu Hoffnung unterstützt und begleitet. Durch gezielte musikalische Gestaltung wird Atmosphäre, Spannung und letztlich emotionalen Aufbruch verstärken.
